Homework Question: Research the way recent film four films have been marketed, and compare it to the way blockbuster films are marketed.
Film four movie is – Happy- Go- Lucky
Happy-Go-Lucky is a 2008 British comedy-drama independent film. Happy-Go-Lucky was marketed by using the film distribution company Momentum Pictures, who are one of the leading independent motion picture distributors in the UK releases approximately 20 theatrical films a year, with several dtv releases this means that by happy go lucky using this they can increase their films publicity to their audience due to the using of momentum pictures attracting and increasing the awareness of Happy-Go-Lucky target audience as they are a well-known independent distributor of films. They also got Theresa Roberts, who is he head of publicity for the film distribution company Momentum Pictures, to comment on the financing of the film based which was based on Leigh's reputation and how the film's marketing campaign focused on actress Sally Hawkins, who won an award for her performance in the film this made the audience to become interested in the film more due to its leading actor which also would have lured the audience to watch the film. Lastly they also got Jamie Schwartz, marketing director at Momentum, to comment on the film's optimistic tone. By them doing this it shows that cost was cheap because they used their main distributor to help them market their film by using the same business, especially as they were leading distributor for all independent films this meant that the public rely on their opinions of films and also meant that if they were in favour of films this meant that the audience also would be prepared to watch this film as they will see momentum pictures as reliable sources when it comes to independent films.
However blockbusters are marketed in a completely different way sometimes they do campaigns a year or more before the film debuts, this means you introduce it with ninety-second teaser trailers and viral Internet “leaks” of gossip or early footage, in preparation for the main trailer, which appears four months before the release, also five weeks before the film opens, they start saturating with a “flight” of thirty-second TV spots; and, at the end, you remind with fifteen-second spots, newspaper ads, and billboards. Studios typically spend about ten million dollars on the “basics” (cutting trailers and designing posters, conducting market research, flying the film’s talent to the junket and the première, and the première itself) and thirty million on the media. They also give a lot of attention on the marketing mix the 4Ps Product.
Product -A film needs to be clearly identifiable in its marketing — genre, stars, story, special effects, style all need to be presented to the audience so they can select the film on the basis of content
Placing - A film has to have the right release date — Christmas for a Christmas movie etc. Its release date will also depend on what else is being released at the same time - films have to fight it out for cinema screens. It would be pointless releasing any big action adventure movie the same weekend as another one simply because cinema goers would choose between it and the competition, thus halving the box office takings. It makes more sense to put a romantic comedy in that release slot, to mop up the movie-goers who are not interested in big screen action
Promotion:
•Print advertising (posters + ads in newspapers & magazines)
•Trailers (screened at cinemas + on TV/radio)
•Internet sites (including Facebook 'fan' pages)
•Viral Videos
•Merchandising — the list is endless books, t-shirts, food, soundtrack CDs, computer games, toys, cars, mobile phones, anything that can be associated with the brand of the movie
Publicity - The publicity department of a studio can use the talent (actors, director, screenwriter) attached to a movie (they have contractual obligations to do what the studio asks).

A stereotype is a thought that may be adopted about specific types of individuals or certain ways of doing things, but that belief may or may not accurately reflect reality.
The trailer is from the first St Trinians film and the photo is from the second St Trinians film and both mention stereotypes shows that the stereotypes used are necessary for the film. The idea of stereotyping is used in quite a comical way in St Trinians. A stereotype in any case cannot be seen as something positive. The film conveys the idea that everyone, regardless of whether they are a ‘chav’, ‘emo’, ‘posh totty’ or ‘geek’, can get along.
